April 22 What happened?Wow, it's been a while huh? I can't blame anyone for never coming around here anymore. The truth is, I wouldn't be surprised if no one ends up reading this. It's been about a year and a half since I've updated and a lot has happened in that time. I've moved, and then moved again. I got engaged, I've changed jobs, it's been a crazy ride. Anyway, in the process I ended up not having any systems to play. It was a long drought. Luckily in the past couple of weeks I've snagged not only an XBox 360 Elite, but also the ever so elusive Nintendo Wii. I've been playing catch up. Lego Star Wars, Assassin's Creed, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and a couple other games have been on my playlist. Of course that got me thinking about my long forgotten Gaming Blog: Fenyx Rising Redux. Maybe this would be a good time for it to once again rise from its ashes. So, I'm back lurking around, visiting my old friends. Well the ones that haven't "un-friended" me and the ones that I still remember. To my surprise a lot of them aren't around anymore. Some haven't updating their blogs at all this year. I took it as a sign. Maybe my MSN spacing days are over. MySpace and Facebook seem to have taken over the world. It sucks, but whatta ya gonna do? If you want to keep in touch with people these days, you better have one or the other, or both. I don't know, it's kind of sad, but I guess it wasn't meant to be. I'm all over the place anyway. To those of you that might come across this, I'm not hard to find, hit me up at MySpace, Facebook, or on my Livejournal. In theory I still have my own website going as well. If you're still plugging away on your MSN space/gaming blog, keep on keepin' on! I'll probably pop in from time to time, but good luck with everything you do in the future. Game on! -Gil November 08 Do you want the good news or the bad news?First of all, I noticed Angel was having trouble with her MSN space. What a surprise. These things drag sometimes. Anyway most of you (and by all of you I mean all three people that read this thing) probably heard the bad news. My 360 died. It stopped spining the discs, demos, arcade games, that all worked fine. I just couldn't get it to read any discs. Unfortunately I had to work so I couldn't do much about it, fortunately my brother was off. I sent him to Best Buy along with my E.S.P. (extended service plan) and after some choice words, we got a new 360. Just in time for Gears of War.
Meanwhile on the other side of town, I was casually strolling to my friendly neighborhood Game Crazy to pick up my pre-order, supposedly reserved copy of Gears of War. I was greeted by a sign that said "Gears of War will be in at 5 or 7". WTF? I wasn't too surprised but some other fanboys weren't taking the news too well. Blood was to be spilled this night. Well, not really.
Fast forward a few hours, GC gets in NINE copies. That's right, 9. Luckily I race down the street and get my grubby little hands on one of those copies. Minutes later I'm Marcus Fenix (gotta love that name) and I'm breaking out of prison. After everything was said and done, this game was definitely worth the wait.
Okay, first impression. Color me impressed. The POV is very immersive, in that it feels like you're right there. Shaky camera angles, fluid, quick movement. I especially like the way it looks when you're running. The cool ways of taking cover, the controls, even the tutorial is impressive. It has a nice feature with the Y button that helps you get oriented and on point, because believe me, at times there's so much going on you have no idea which way to go. I'm enjoying the story so far and co-op is surprisingly fun. Multiplayer online was a bit of a hassle, but no more than Halo or Ghost Recon. It just takes some time to find a decent match. I honestly didn't get to play much online but I look forward to it tonight.
The surround sound, voice talents, and a lot of the little things were done right and it makes for a great gaming experience. I don't want to give anything away or come off as a total fanboy so I'll stop raving for now. But I will say this, all of the high marks, early praise, and rave reviews for this game are well-deserved. Hope to catch you guys online soon.
~Fenix..err..Fenyx November 06 I jinxed it...Unf'ing believable. My Xbox died today. I just got through saying how it's been fine since launch, unreal. I keep getting the "unplayable disc" message. Arcade and demos work fine but its making a noise when trying to get the disc to spin. Just my luck. Seriously, I haven't played in ages, I never have time and finally when an awesome game's going to come out and I have time...this happens. I'm jinxed I tell ya... Show Me the Money! What's up everyone. I hope everyone's doing well. I know I've been horrible at keeping this up, but I've been busy and maybe it's just me but these Spaces aren't very user-friendly. I've got an LJ and it seems to be a lot more accessible. Not to mention that it takes forever for MSN spaces to load lately, but I digress...
It's almost here everyone, yeah I'm talking about
GEARS OF WAR I tried not to get too excited about this title. After all, I'm not made of money damnit! I passed over Splinter Cell, and a couple of other titles I normally would have purchased. The trailers look great, the reviews have been good, and I'm hoping it lives up to the hype. I'm also considering taking a personal day just to play this, heh. Is it the next Halo? Is everyone going to be playing this? Will my phone and doorbell be taken out of commission? We'll have to wait and see.
I know what you're thinking, so what the hell have you been playing? (Actually you're probably thinking, who's this guy think he is? He thinks we think about him?) Well, try as I may, I couldn't pass up a good comic-book game. I've been having lots of fun with Marvel Alliance. Sure the gameplay's been done and the plot is pretty insane, but it's a fun game nonetheless. I mean who could stop Wolverine, Ghost Rider, Blade and Deadpool? The X-dorks? The Lametastic Four? The Wussy Avengers? No dice. The powers up, unlockable characters and costumes, and the fact that they stick to the comic books, for the most part, all add up to a fun game. You can just pick it up and play. My only regret, or complaint, or whatever is that the greatest Marvel Character of all time isn't available thanks to THQ. The Punisher, aka Frank Castle, is no where to be found. Damn licensing agreements, I'll just keep pretending that he's just too much of a badass to be in this game. Pfft...he ain't taking orders from that boy scout Fury...
Other than that, Dig Dug, Galaga and the other arcade games have taken up some of my newly found free-time. Speaking of, that new found free time will surely become non-existant later this month. What to do, what to do? I've been meaning to pick up a new DS game, I was going to ask what games you guys liked but I think I need to save as much money as possible for a couple of systems coming out this month.
I'm actually still debating the said purchase of these systems. Maybe I should just scoop up all the new games coming out on the 360 and pick one or two up for the DS. Maybe only buy the Wii? Who knows? I'm a sucker, if I can find it on launch day, I'll probably sell a kidney or take out a loan to buy the PS3. However, with the problems everyone's been reporting, as far as overheating and what not. Didn't the initial PS2 systems have problems too? Then again I've had my 360 since launch and it's been fine. Hmmm....decisions, decisions. That's why you've got to make them for me! Tell me what to do?! Better yet, buy me the Wii and PS3! Show me the systems!!
Okay, well I think I've wasted enough of both of our times. Until next time...
Same Fenyx Time, Same Fenyx Channel. September 27 If I was a dog, you would never neglect me like you did yesterday...I felt so guilty when I read that in my 360's blog. Heh, well like Lucy, I guess I have some s'plaining to do. Where do I begin?
This past summer was unusually hectic. I was running a summer camp with some other coaches on the westside, I became an uncle, I helped my sister move, I spent a week on the east coast, I got laid off from my job, and I got invovled in a psuedo-relationship. Not that you're all here waiting patiently for my next update, but I figured an explanation of some sort was due. Needless to say, gaming, and the Internet in general took a backseat to that sometimes annoying thing we like to call life.
I'm not sure if it was the exhaustion or the lack of titles, or just plain old burnout, but I stopped playing my 360. I never got around to finishing Oblivion, it just got a little repetitive. I even spent money on the downloads, but they didn't do much for me. I never finished Hitman, the problem being that I wanted to finish everything on the highest difficulty, what was it, Silent Assassin or whatever. Anyway, I soon got tired of playing the same levels over and over. Of course the stubborn part of me wouldn't allow me to play the game run n' gun style or at a lower difficulty level. I did get some enjoyment out of the Rockstar Table Tennis game, whatever it's called, and the arcade games have gotten some play. Galaga and Frogger were fun along with SFII. There just isn't enough time in the world, you know?
NCAA came along and I played that for a season, I screwed up my recruiting for the second season and lost interest after that. I was proud of the fact that I took NIU to a bowl game and I had them ranked at #1 for part of the season. Around this time the abortion known as MADDEN 07 hit stores. Although the mini-games are fun, and the game has improved since last year, it's still not on par for what I feel a good Madden game should be. The menus are insane, the whole deal with the Hall of Famers getting unlocked sucks, the profiles get all screwy and to top things off. I can't play online! Madden is probably the number one reason I have LIVE. I got to play once and now everytime I try to log on to the servers it gives me a message that I have to sign into my LIVE account. All the while I'm already signed in and I can see my friends jumping on and off. Not to mention the fact that I can play every other game I have just fine. I've looked on the Xbox boards and EA's and I haven't been able to figure it out. Again, time being a factor, I don't have all day to try to fix what's wrong. So I go to the next best thing...
Saint's Row. Now, this is a fun game. Sure it's a carbon copy of GTA but it also has a few upgrades. The GPS type of maps, the side missions, the online play, good stuff. Yes, it sucks we can't fly planes, and ride bikes or whatever. And yes, your character is like a deaf/mute who never says anything but tell me that customizing him didn't kick ass. You didn't have to run around as CJ or Tommy or whatever, that's got to count for something.
Anyway, I guess that's about it for now. My football season is halfway through and the NFL is underway. Baseball's about to get good again and Ben Wallace will debut for my Chicago Bulls in about two weeks. Oh and how 'bout them Bears!! So, eventhough a lot of things have sucked lately, it seems that all is right in the world for the moment.
I'll try to update more and play some more as well. Those of you that haven't forgotten me, and even those who have, I hope you're all doing well and look forward to catching you guys on here or on LIVE. (just not F'ing Madden) Take care and see ya around.
~Gil
PS-that Wii is looking better and better the closer it gets, heh. July 01 D'oh!What's up everyone. I've been slacking as usual, the sad thing is that I'm not even working, it's just errands and odd jobs that have been keeping me busy. That and I've just been enjoying the summer, it's limiting my 360 and internet time. Thank God for the DS or I'd be gaming even less. So how the hell is everyone?
Speaking of the DS...I'm semi-addicted to Brain Age, I just can't stand the thought of disappointing the Dr. and I love how he gives me props for stopping by everyday, heh. Anyway, in the interest of science, I tried playing last night while I was under the influence, and I figured I'd be all over the place. Was I mistaken, I got one of my best scores ever while doing the calculations and tied my high score in low to high. Heh. Go figure.
Of course I've been playing New Super Mario Bros. on and off and I finally got the astropopper or whatever acheievement in Astropop. Basically I flipped it (flipped it, who says that anymore, I guess it's kind of obsolete since you don't "flip" games so much as finish them these days, I'm showing my age) by reaching level 32 with each pilot.
I've played a lot of games lately but nothing with too much intent, just passing time really. I got another achievement in Bankshot Billiards 2 and I think I got 47 kills in Hitman, but that's about it. I'm slippin' in my old age! Everyone's catching up or passing me in gamerpoints. They'll all be at the 10k mark soon enough. Hitman's fun, especially after a long day, it's nice to let out some rage by putting bullets in people's heads. (All in good fun of course and on the 360, I do not condone, advise, or promote the actual placing of bullets in real people's heads)
I also got some G.R.A.W. in this past week, it's always fun playing online with people you know, UNO as well. It almost feels like you're just hanging out playing cards. Oh and ICandee next time I'm on Ghost Recon I'll pwn someone for ya, heh. Guess that's about it, lots of games coming out this month, still not sure if I'm going to keep buying games or start using Gamefly. I'm with them but I just haven't been sending my damn games back, I think I'll be getting Tomb Raider soon so that should be fun.
A few days back I spent hours playing friggin' Gauntlet. I figured I could beat it, my cousin was over and we started out strong enough, but we both faded around level 50. How the hell did I spend hours playing that as a kid? The things you'll do when you're bored...
Oh one more thing, I'm sure most of you know it but I was, I mean "someone" was watching the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles this morning and they showed a promo for a Viva Pinata cartoon coming soon. I guess they're launching a cartoon as well as the game. This might be the next Power Rangers/Pokemon/Digimon type of craze to sweep the nation.
Or it could suck.
Anyway, take care everyone, have a great weekend, and an awesome Fourth to my fellow Americans.
~Gil
PS-if you're ever really jonesing for a Fenyx fix hit me up at myspace or at fenyxrising.com. ;) June 19 I'm still here...Wow, time flies huh? Over ten days since my last update, well, I'll get right to it since I know you're all on the edge of your seats...
First the good news:
I finally got my very own
DS LITE!!!
I have to say that I'm very satisfied with it. Dare I say, pleased. New Super Mario Bros. rocks. There's just something to be said about a game that takes you back. Don't get me wrong, I'm an Xbox man, but there's just so much history, I mean me and man Mario go way back. Did I mention the old dog's got some new moves. Well, not new per se, but new to a SMB adventure. Anyway, long story short, it was nice to be controlling the plumber in red and blue once again, and battling the all too familiar Koopas. It's funny because my brother still actually remembers where they're from and what they do, hahaha. I just remember they're all named Koopa-something or other. In addition to NSMB I also procured...
BRAIN AGE
Okay, so this game isn't for everyone, and truth be told I think I picked it up because A) I read something about it online and I think on Angel's space and B) because Gamecrazy was full of these tattooed hip looking ruffians and some hot chicks and I was too embarassed to ask for Nintendogs which is what I really wanted to try out. Hahahahaha.
This is especially amusing because I happen to be tattooed and kind of rough looking my damn self. But I digress. I'm glad I picked it up. For the most part the training excercises and programs are pretty entertaining and are just enough to keep me interested for minutes a day, like it promises. The Sudoku puzzles are an added bonus seeing as I can whip out my DS and complete a puzzle or two while waiting in the car or any other random place. The touch screen works incredibly well and the voice recognition is pretty decent. With the exception of the word blue. Blue! Bluuuuuuuuuu! Blew! English muthaf***er do you speak it?! For some strange reason it doesn't hear the word blue too well, and it's not me, apparently this happens to everyone.
Anyway, these two games and my DS have kept me from playing my damn 600+ system. Heh. I guess it's somewhat like the arcade, I can play Brain Age or Mario for a little while, unfortunately I don't have the time to invest in the bigger games at the moment. Not to mention that I'm kind of just burnt out on Xbox at the moment, speaking of, now the bad...
Xbox.com
MS and Xbox are starting to annoy me. It's not the system, I love my 360. The games are equally great. However, a couple of things are disappointing me. First of all, I love how the Street Fighter game came out on the marketplace on time. Oh wait, it didn't? That's a first. Oh and where are the freebies? Gamerpics, themes, everything costs points. Yeah, I know, no one is forcing us to buy them, but give a dog a bone y'know. The Oblivion downloads, etc. I guess I'm being nit-picky but it's kind of turned me off the marketplace, for now.
Now what about the Backwards Compatibility list? How's that working out? Granted, it's nice that they're even working on it, after all this time, but there are a lot of games that still haven't been made BC. If you're not going to come out with new games for us at least let us play our old ones. Yes, I still have my old Xbox but who wants to connect all those wires. (Ok, so I'm lazy)
Finally, and this is probably my only legitimate gripe, check this forum out. A while back I came across a thread named the "Official Stuck at Work Thread". It was a great thread to check out while at work on break or before clocking in. Some time passed and it was closed, for spamming or some reason. However, the thread lived on in the "Son of the Official Stuck at Work Thread". It was marvelous. I made a bunch of friends in that thread and we kept it on topic for the most part. Sure a few of us did some stupid things, but for the most part our conversations were about upcoming games, meeting online to play, and Xbox in general. A little over a week ago a few things went down and we felt the fury of the MODS. Our thread was closed and every attempt at making a new thread was deleted. What happened to a warning? Or to just deleting the offensive content and/or banned the offender? Our thread made up a HUGE percentage of the traffic on the forums, you can see it for yourself. Anyway, the end result was that myself, and a whole lot of other gamers are now posting and playing in the Sandbox.
So much for community. I just hope nothing like that happens on the Spaces, like I've said before, I'm happy to be making new friends. Whenever I find the time I'll be on to get my arse owned by most of you. Until then, I'll be dropping in on your spaces and lurking around as usual.
Keep up the good work,
~Gil June 08 The Power of OneHey everyone, I've been busy as hell and haven't had much time to write, let alone play some Xbox. Anyway I wanted to post something about this site. It's a great story and it's another example of the power of in the Internet and of communities. I hope everything works out, the situation is just pretty amusing.
HITMAN: BLOOD MONEY
I picked this up over the weekend and I'm really enjoying it, I'm just taking my time with it. I'm a big fan of the series and 47's storyline in general. The small tweaks they've added are fun, and I've always liked that you can play it nice and cool, low-key or just go balls out and kill everyone in your path. I know you're a hired assassin but I still have a hard time killing innocents. Whether it's KOTOR, Jade Empire, or Fable, I find it difficult to venture into the darkside. I'm afraid once I get there, I won't turn back, mwahahahaha. The weapons, the intel, the cut-scenes and storyline all work well. I like the new skill where you can kill someone from above with your fiberwire. The graphics don't dissapoint and the gameplay/control is pretty easy to handle. Anyway, this is a nice pick-up and a definite change of pace from Oblivion.
I'm still working on the Arcade games on and off, and still deciding on what to do about my Gamefly account. Although I'm not writing as much, I am still checking in on everyone. Keep up the good work!
~Fen June 01 "Nintendo DS Lite will be your best acquisition of the year."It looks like my ceramic white PSP is never going to make it stateside, so I might as well face it, I'm not going to be getting a PSP. However, I'm itching for something new, and I've been seeing a lot of commercials about the NEW SUPER MARIO BROS. game. According to the fine folks at Nintendo the "cool look of the Polar White DS Lite brighten [my] day" and who doesn't want that? My days could use some brightening, heh.
Seriously though, I've been feeling nostalgic. Remembering the summer days when my friends and I would wait for the video store to open, waiting to get our video game fix. They had Super Mario Bros. and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. I still remember how the game would talk, "Kali-mon will rule the world!" or "Close call, Indy!!!". If both machines were taken we'd pass the time persuing the new releases, taunting our friends, or trying to sneak a peak at the movies in the adult section. Man I really I loved that game, I guess I'm bias since Indy's always been my hero. I'd better stop, I'd probably buy the arcade machine if I saw it somewhere for a good price...but I digress.
Super Mario Bros. Sure I had an Atari 2600, but the NES was my first baby. I think I ended up paying for it by saving money, doing chores, and odd jobs. Before I was the XBox fanboy that I am now, I was a Nintendo fanboy. I can't say what happened, but the N64 was the last Nintendo system I owned. Maybe I outgrew Nintendo, maybe the combination of the PS/PS2 and XBox was just too much, but I left Mario behind.
Looking at the specs for this new DS, I think it might be time to give everyone's favorite plumber another chance. Besides, it'll be a nice lead into the Wii coming up. It'll be my warm-up.
Oblivion I've just been closing gates, trying to get Burma some aid. I finished the fighter's guild quests, but some reason I still can't bring myself to join the Blades. I don't know, I'm still having trouble getting enough free time to play this for any extended periods of time.
Did the Hitman game come out? Should I get Grand Theft Ping Pong? Eh...too many questions, not enough answers. I'm still really busy, Prom is tomorrow, there are a bunch of parties next week and then graduation. Not to mention a couple of parties, banquets, and barbecues. In a couple of weeks I'll have more time for my 360, I promise. Heh.
~Illinois Fenyx May 29 It's been a while...Hey everyone, I'm still around, just busy. Work gets hectic this time of year, but it's almost over. Besides, it might be a good thing since it gives everyone time to catch up. By the way, if you ever really miss me you could always check out my LJ, heh.
XBL Arcade
Thank God for the arcade. Times like these there's nothing better than to be able to play a few quick games. Played some UNO, of course, a little Zuma, some Astropop and some Geometry Wars. Sadly I think I've reached walls in Geo Wars and Zuma. Whatta ya gonna do?
Oblivion
How are people playing this for hundreds of hours? I've only gotten to about 100 and I've only finished the Fighter's Guild storyline. I've closed a few gates and worked on every storyline but I don't see how people have completed the game 100% in about 100 hours. I don't know, maybe I wander too much, or get too involved in plot, I don't know. To be honest with you I'm getting kind of burned out. The time I've spent in Oblivion, while well worth it, could have also been spent playing tons of games. I guess I'm still not sure what kind of gamer I want to be. Do I want to play everything out there, and in essence be a gamerpoint hog or stick to a few games and play the hell out of them. Madden, GTAs, RPGs, MLB, and the Clancy games for example. My Gamefly's gone to waste the last couple of months but I haven't been able to bring myself to cancel it. Eh, we'll see.
Other than that, I guess that's about it. Not a whole of news around here, thanks for stopping by and I'll be checking in on everyone as I usually do.
~ Fen
EDIT: Damn, I didn't realize it'd been a whole ten days, heh. May 19 CommunityHey everyone, not a whole lot going on but I though I'd quote a portion and try to trackback to a great post by JP. I'm also very encouraged by this community we've got going, I just hope that it survives the arrivals of the Wii and the PS3, hahaha. I didn't need to keep up with E3 anywhere else, I just visited everyone's blogs, it is also cool that no matter what the time I seem to have at least one friend online. Not only does it make feel like less of a dork if I'm on LIVE at 5am, but it's fun to have someone to play with or just chat with. Quote Community May 18 "Afraid of the future, but I'm bored with the past"My Xbox is really going to be upset with me.
I've been busy the last few days with work and extra-cirricular activities so I haven't had much time for my 360. I had another long day at work today and was looking forward to playing for a while. There's not much on TV anymore and nothing else going on, so I get home, plop in front of the TV and...
Nothing.
I couldn't decide what I wanted to play, and I suddenly lost the urge. Do I want to keep on looking for that last clue in Oblivion, keep on canvasing that damn castle. Or get my next pilot to level 32 in Astropop. Maybe look for people to play with online. But nothing. Am I burned out? I'm hoping I was just tired and I'll be my usual self later, heh.
So here I am surfing the net, listening to some tunes and waiting for ER to come on.
I know, I'm a wild man.
~G. Money May 15 It's 10 O'Clock, do you know where your children are?God I'm old, does anyone even remember those PSAs or even know what the hell I'm talking about?
Wow what a week that was huh? I won't even try to write about it seeing as everyone else has done, and continue to do, great work on their blogs. I will say that my faves were the Tony Hawk, Sonic, and Halo 3 trailers. Of course the Tom Clancy stuff rocked, and my cur-"Wii"-osity was piqued by Red Steel. Some great stuff went on. That also meant I haven't had much time actually playing the 360. I've picked up a few achievements on Oblivion, Uno, and Astropop. Uno, btw, damn good deal for 400 points. I also got some time in on Halo, GRAW, Uno and a couple of other games online, really didn't have anyone contact me about the whole Ambassador thing. Either not that many people were on, or they just don't like me :(. Heh, strange, but I'm not complaining. But, I will complain about the giveaway. Verizon, you suck. The whole thing was screwed up, I never got in and when I did, it was over. Why even bother? Oh, there is one more thing bugging me... *gets on soap box*
I'll start by saying that I'm not even going to touch the immigration issue, that's complicated and there's no easy solution, I think Bush didn't really say much or resolve anything tonight, we'll see where it goes. Just remember that not so long ago we had Japanese people locked up for no reason across the country, land of the free indeed... Anyway, this is something that's been bugging me, and honestly I'm not sure if it's me being overly-sensitive at times of if people really are down right ignorant. I live in a very diverse community, I work in a diverse environment. I was brought up pretty well, I'd have to admit, and lucky enough to have friends and neighbors of every shape and color. C'mon, who else do you know that grew up learning Spanish, English, some Tagalog and a little Assyrian. At my current place of employment we have students from 59 countries speaking over 69 languages. Long story short, I think I can honestly say I don't see color too often. I see idiots, a-holes, and POS, but that's regardless of what color they are. But I digress... It seems that whether I'm on MySpace, LJ, MSN, or Xbox Live, whatever it may be, I've been running into a lot of racism lately. Has the immigration issue ratched up this hatred? Some of it might seem harmless, or like I'm overreacting but some would argue that racism should be fought in any of its shapes or forms. I have a great quote about it somewhere that I can't remember right now. Back on point, I'm playing Ghost Recon and people are like "let's shoot those Mexican's before they cross the border" or about not wanting to live in a certain area because it's full of "white trash and Mexicans". I know, some of these people are kids, and I sure as hell am not going to try to be a parent or "treat" them online. I'm not trying to get into an arguement over the internet with some 12 year old while he's owning me at Halo. That's not my job, at least not when I'm off the clock. Or is it? Isn't it up to all of us to try to overcome prejudice? I mean it's f'n 2006 and I know for a fact, that's it is not only little kids spouting the "N" all over LIVE. I know that some of these people have kids of their own. This is what they're teaching. This is what their kids will learn. I mean, a lot of us play these games online, on LIVE, to get away from the BS of our lives. Work, school, parents, life, whatever's bugging you, it's supposed to be a nice getaway, it just sucks having to hear these idiots bring you back to the real world. You are some of the people I am talking about. You post your little bulletins, you forward your "funny" emails, you spread the ignorance. I'm just not sure how to fight it. Some of you are my friends, and maybe you don't mean it. Or mean it like that. How am I supposed to say, "hey that wasn't that funny", or that insulted me. I'm not being sensitive, hell I'm not very PC my damn self. So what's okay? Where's the line? I don't know. When I was pledging in college, I was the only Latino in my line. I got shit from a lot of my friends and from the Latino fraternities because I didn't join theirs. I was cool with it, the particular frat I was joining was pretty much everyone I worked with. They were easy going and fun. Anyway, one day during hell week, we weren't allowed to sleep, if I remember correctly. Well, the rest of my line thought it was funny to start telling jokes, I'm always going to remember how much that bothered me and how much of a wuss I felt like and still do, for not saying anything. For just sitting there and listening to these assholes. There's not much I regret, but that's one of the things I do. Again, was/is it just me overreacting? I mean everyone's either told one or laughed at one, what's the harm? Anyway, this isn't a typical post, I just wanted to vent and maybe make one of two of you think a little before you tell that joke, forward that message, or say something stupid. -ME May 12 Paris Hilton causes commotion at E3She's such a ditz...
Although I'm sure most of you already heard. I'm as guilty as the next person when it comes to celebrities and bs, for example the Tom Cruise stuff, or even like Ben and J.Lo, but at least they can act or sing, or have some kind of talent. Paris is what's wrong with this country, famous for nothing but being rich. Just like that stupid, insipid Super Sweet 16 show, or the real OC or whatever. These kids are so spoiled and the excess is just so ridiculous...ugh. But I digress this a vidoe game blog right?
I'll update a bit more this weekend once I have had time to sit down with all the E3 stuff. Off the top of my head that Alan Wake game looks cool, as does Shadowrun. The Clancy games, SC:Double Agent and R6 Vegas look friggin' awesome. It's going to be tough deciding what to buy and what to skip over the coming months.
Take care everyone, I'll be back soon...
~G May 10 1000 Miles and Runnin'How's it going? It's been a while, I know. I did get my 1000th hit last night, so that's kind of cool I guess, heh.
I'm out of it, not even sure where to begin. I'll start by saying that a lot of you are doing a great job covering E3, so much so that I don't feel like I have much to add. I'll just say that like a lot of people, I was disappointed with the Sony camp but impressed with Nintendo's. I must say that I'm now looking forward to Wii. I guess Wii'll see how it goes. (that was bad)
Okay, so day one I was able to download most of the trailers and demos available. Out of all of them the one that impressed me the most was Sonic the Hedgehog! It was awesome to see him in all of his HD glory! The racing game demo, whatever it was, didn't impress me. What else was on there? Eh let me keep going. I'm excited about GTA4 on the 360, that's going to rock. Halo 3 was definitely cool, FINISH THE FIGHT, it doesn't get any cooler than that. I'm looking forward to Hitman and a couple more titles.
What really impressed me was the trailer/video on IGN about Red Steel. If the Wii's controller works as seamlessly as it looks like in that trailer, it's going to kick ass. Hmmm...what can I say that hasn't already been said, err...written.
Eh, I guess I'm still ticked off about not being able to download jack or s.hit last night. By the way, that's really lame that people's personal spaces are edited/censored. But I digress, it is ridiculous that I wasn't able to download a game that's 24MB in size for over three hours. Pathetic, they should have been ready for the demand. I hope things are better tonight, but I won't hold my breath. At the very least I hope I can finish downloading friggin' UNO.
Oh well, guess that's it for now, don't mind me, I might be suffering from gaming withdrawal, heh.
Hope everything's running smoothly with you guys and dolls...

May 07 Gamerpoint *****I should get a neighborhoodie that says that. The truth is, I'm not all that much of a GM *****, I actually earn all of mine, I just felt like one this weekend.
Madden 06
I finally worked on my franchise some more this week. It all started with the draft last week, I got back into a football kind of mood. (that and my beloved cubbies are taking a nice nosedive) When this first came out, waaaay back on launch, I tolerated it. Even tried defending the game, "it's not that bad!" "But the graphics are amazing!!" Anyway, I quickly stopped playing it once COD, PDZ, and all those other cool games that can be spelled with initials came out. So, I got back into it, finally won the Super Bowl (it was a total let down, no celebration or anything) with my Bears, and just this morning I finished my franchise mode. Madden is officially the second game I've ever completed 100%. Yay me.
XBox LIVE Arcade
I tried picking up points in the arcade but I think I'm pretty much stuck on Geometry Wars, Zuma, Jewel Quest, and friggin' Astropop for the time being. Not too many points coming there on the horizon.
Far Cry
So I gave this game another shot, seeing as I was in gamerpoint mode. I quickly realized that I wouldn't be getting any points soon on this game. It is an exciting game, but like I mentioned before, I don't have the time to invest in another game. Oblivion is such a time sink. Eh, whatta ya gonna do?
MLB2K6
Okay, so now that the crashing issue has been resolved, I'm starting to enjoy this game a lot more. I got my first achievement in it this yesterday, I think I K'd about 17 players with Schilling. I have yet to start a franchise or create a player, again, time is an issue. This is a great game to just pick up and play though. I know that in previous 2K games you could customize your music. That's usually a lot of fun, I haven't had the time to mess with it, but I saw my brother change some of the menu music so I'll play with that when I get the chance.
Oblivion
I was just playing this and I completed a little bit more of the Fighter's quests. I got in, got some gamerpoints and got out. I won't say I'm getting burned out, but I think I'm almost forcing myself not to get too involved with this game at the moment. By putting it down for a weekend I was able to watch a few movies and a little bit of tv, who knew!
Well, that's about it, less than ten hours until the free week begins! I hope they do this again sometime during the summer since I'll be off work and can probably dedicate a lot more time to this than I'll be able to this week. However, I plan on being online as much as possible so hit me up. I should probably make a list of games I'll play...
FIGHT NIGHT ROUND 3
MLB 2K6
MADDEN 06
GHOST RECON:ADVANCED WARFIGHTER
HALO 2
GAUNTLET
SMASH TV
MARBLE BLAST ULTRA
FAR CRY INSTINCTS PREDATOR
BANKSHOT BILLIARDS 2
...and I'll get OWNED at them all!!! Well, maybe I'll hold my own on the sports games, but I haven't been online with a FPS for a while except for Halo the other day and, of course, I was demolished. Pfft, I'd like to see these guys come after me if we had real guns!!!
Bitter much?
Anyone this is Ambassador Fenyx signing off, see you on LIVE! May 04 I love this...TURN OFF YOUR PHONE.
LOCK THE DOOR. CRANK UP THE 360. Hahahahaha, you gotta love that. It reminds me of the Madden promos where they tell guy's girlfriends to get ready to be single for a while, or if most of the male population is missing it's because they're playing Madden. Anyway, that was in the E3 VIP email I got from LIVE, good stuff. Oblivion Rating changed to MatureOblivion ratings changed to M for gore and breasts
The latest best-selling game by Bethesda Softworks LLC will be relabeled with a new rating that prohibits sales to children under age 17. The game -- The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion -- will now carry a "mature" rating, equivalent to an "R" rating for movies. The Entertainment Software Ratings Board, a trade organization that reviews video game content, announced yesterday that it had discovered "more detailed and intense depictions of blood and gore" than it saw in its pre-release review. The board also objected to a software modification that was circulating among gamers on the Internet that allowed players to create topless versions of female characters in the game. Bethesda Softworks said in a statement last night that it would place "M" rating stickers on games already in stores but that the game would not be recalled. While agreeing to comply with the board's decision, the company disputed the rationale behind the higher rating and said it would not alter the game's content to keep a "teen" rating. "We believe that this critically acclaimed game is not typical of Mature rated titles, and does not present the central themes of violence that are common to those products," Pete Hines, Bethesda's vice president of marketing, said in a statement. When game publishers submit upcoming releases to the ESRB, they also must include videos of a game's most intense sexual or violent content. Because games like Oblivion can be played for dozens of hours without players seeing everything in them, the organization depends on publishers to send them the most potentially objectionable content. The company said that it did not hide anything from the ratings group and that its pre-release submission on Oblivion was "full, accurate and comprehensive." Bethesda blamed the partial nudity of some characters on tampering by third parties who have modified the game's art files and said it appeared in only Oblivion's PC version. The company said it did not "create a game with nudity and does not intend that nudity appear in Oblivion" and added that it was taking steps to protect the game's art archive from tampering. Local game designer Brian Reynolds, head of Big Huge Games Inc. in Timonium, Md., said, "It would be a disaster for us" if the ESRB re-designated one of his titles after its release. "That's something you never want to see, games getting pulled off shelves," he said. Jason Della Rocca, executive director of the International Game Developers Association, said pulling games and re-stickering them is an expensive process. "Many people see the ESRB as a tool of the industry -- but, in fact, developers fear it," he said. "They are tough as nails." Though it is rare for a game title's rating to be changed after its release, this is not the first time the ESRB has done so. When a hidden sex game was discovered in the hit Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas last year, the board changed that game's rating to "adults only" from "mature" -- the equivalent of an "X" movie rating. Eventually, the company removed the objectionable content and had its mature rating restored. But analysts said that the game's absence from retail shelves cost its publisher millions of dollars. -Did I scoop you guys for once? Heh. This is pretty crazy but I don't think it's as bad as the Hot Coffee situation.
~Gil May 03 I'm still rollin'What will they think of next. I'm still rollin' on, my Xbox Voice is now active! Check it! I finally loaded Halo 2 on the 360 but I go pwned for the little while I played. Last night I played Oblivion and worked on the two DL'd quests, they're both pretty cool so far, one's more of a task completing quest so far, but it's definitely going to pay off. Even if they're not the greatest I think they were worth the points. Ugh once again I'm in a hurry but I wanted to touch base, I'm off to see Scott Lucas of Local H play an acoustic set, it should be a good time. I'll get my ass on for some quality 360 time soon, heh.
